Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim, on his maiden visit to India as the Foreign Minister, has expressed that Maldives needed Indian assistance to effectively address counterterrorism.
Indian papers reported that Dr. Asim had announced that National Counter Terrorism Center head will visit India on August 29.
Asim also described India as a "solid friend" and assured that Maldives will not undertake any activity that will jeopardize security of the Indian Ocean
Dr. Asim added that Maldives lacked the capabilities to tackle terror efforts and is an extremely small nation, adding that Maldives needed India’s know-how and capacity building efforts.
Speaking about the developing relationship between Maldives and China, Dr. Asim said that the relationship was mostly economic and business ties and it posed no concerns for India.
