The queues to buy dollars at the banks are increasing at a rapid rate.
Every year during the Hajj season Maldives undergoes a dollar shortage, with many buying dollars as gifts for pilgrims. During this season the number of people going abroad for various purposes also spike, with many heading out into the region, especially to Sri Lanka.
This pattern had also played out in the Independence Day holidays, with many of them going on shopping sprees and medical checkups.
This all had translated to an upsurge in dollar sales, noted by many.
