Scholars have noted that Islamic names are written in different ways to denigrate their meaning.
Speaking to Miadhu on the sidelines of the Scholars Symposium, currently ongoing in Bandos Island, some scholars said that the names in Islam and associated with Islam were written in English without any standards or principles, but rather on the writer’s preference.
“Where’s Mohamed? The Prophet is not Mohamed, its Muhammad. Where’s Ahmed? In Quran the name is Ahmad, not Ahmed,”
When writing Makkah, usually in it is written in English as Mecca. In some instances, this is used in a negative connotation, as a sign of disrespect.
It is saddening that such aspects have crept into our daily use.
