Thilafushi now uses own equipment: Thoriq
Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has stated that though the Ministry had used rental equipment in Thilafushi for waste disposal, now they were using own equipment.

Speaking to press, Minister Thoriq said that an agreement was drawn up with India’s Tatwa company for waste disposal in greater Male’ area but the agreement was nullified on January 1 this year as no work had been carried out. He said therefore the Government had only seven months to oversee the waste management process. Minister said within that seven months the Government had managed to control the waste situation.

Thoriq noted that proper waste management was one of the basic tenets of protecting the environment.

Minister Thoriq noted that this year so far, the state had spent over MVR 20 million on waste collection and elimination, with many waste management projects in many islands carried out by grant aid.
