Newly appointed Chancellor at the Maldives Islamic University has stated that he will seek to make the University an acclaimed one in his tenure.
Speaking to Miadhu, regarding his new appointment, Dr. Shaheem today said that he had been involved in the process from the day the Government had passed the decision to open one.
Dr. Shaheem, who was also the Chair of the Committee that oversaw the formation of the University, said that education and a proper religious upbringing were key to a developed nation. He said that development will come in leaps and bounds if guided by Islamic education from schools, colleges and universities. He said this was the guiding principle for the formation of the University.
Dr. Shaheem said he will notch up the work he carried out for the development of the University during his tenure as Vice Chancellor. He added that he will seek to make the University best in the region and one that all Maldivians will be proud of.
“I will seek the assistance of other Universities, organizations and countries. This is a huge national and religious responsibility. Willdo my best to fulfill that obligation with the grace of God,”
Dr. Shaheem is a respected person in national service, including the formation of Hajj Corporation, Waqf Fund, Mosque Fund. The ten-storey Waqf Fund building is an invaluable service to the country. He also kicked off a program to train 500 hafez.
It has been reported to Miadhu that Dr. Shaheem will be filling the duties of both Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. President Yameen had initiated many reforms to improve the University.
