MIRA has revealed that the Authority will hold a series of seminars for guesthouse owners to inform them on the green taxation. Due to the 8th amendment to the Tourism Act, guesthouses will be responsible to charge green taxes. The seminar will be held on the 28th of this month in SHE building.
The first session of the “Green Tax Seminar” will be held from 0900 hrs to 1200, while the second session will be held from 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs.
MIRA said the sessions will focus on essential information on the tax for the guesthouses.

MIRA said they will hold additional sessions in the future and that they were open to holding sessions on request from individual guesthouses. MIRA said that they had visited islands with booming guesthouse businesses to familiarize guesthouse owners. The Authority said additional information will be available via the 1415 hotline.
Resorts, hotels and vessels began charging green taxes from November 1, 2015 at the rate of US$ 6 per guest per day. Guesthouses will charge US$ 3 per guest per day.
