Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) introduced awards in recognition of civilians who collect garbage thrown on the streets for their exemplary work in ensuring that the streets of Maldives remain garbage-free and clean.
The Appreciated Award and Respected Badge was launched in a ceremony held at PSM Senaco Hall by Minister of Environment and Energy, Ibrahim Toriq.
The very first Appreciated Award and Respected Badge were awarded to two individuals – Mohamed Hassan and Hassan Mansoor.
Mohamed Hassan was awarded after he had picked up garbage lying in front of MIRA offices. Hassan Mansoor was awarded for his efforts in educating his son against littering.
WAMCO said public areas can only be kept clean with the collaboration of the whole society. The company said the awards were introduced to promote this.
