Vice President of the Maldives Abdullah Jihad have said that the opposition cannot topple the government no matter how much they try.
Speaking to the press at the President’s office Jihad said that a regime change is only possible through an election. He also said that there will be no interim government.
He said that government can be only changed if the people decide to do so in 2018. “It will not be possible to topple this government. With the will of Allah, this government will be elected for a second term as well” said Jihaad.
“I have served the government for a long time. There has been no government that implemented so many projects in such a short span. This is the truth. The people of this nation can see this and they will not rise up to topple the government” said Jihaad.
He also said that the economy of Maldives is in a good state and the economy is developing at a fast pace. Jihaad further said that the sovereign guarantee rating could be increased when the country is stable. He said that destabilizing the nation will decline tourist arrivals and it will be the ordinary citizens who will affect the most from this.
Jihaad noted that despite the size of the country, Maldives has achieved a lot compared to much larger countries. He also highlighted the importance of working together to maintain the development we have achieved so far.
He also said that the Maldives is a very unique country with one language, one religion and one ethnicity. Jihad advised everyone not to divide the nation.
