State Trading Organisation (STO) has decided to give chance to local businesses within the atolls to partner up with them.
The purpose of this initiative is to provide goods imported by STO at the same price everywhere in the Maldives.
Speaking to Miadhu, the MD of STO Mr. Ahmed Shaheer said that the regional shops of STO are doing really well and that the business is developing.
“Our target is to sell STO products from these shops at the same price as Male’. Also we plan to make all the products available without discontinuity. The work is really successful and going on.” Said Shaheer.
He said that even though the regional outlets of STO are performing well, they do not plan to open new outlets. “President Yameen wants small and medium enterprises of private individuals to develop. To give more opportunities for small and medium enterprises” said Shaheer.
He said at that end of this year or early 2017, they will allow local businesses to apply for a partnership. He said the partners will receive many benefits and will be able to develop their business. In addition, the people can get goods at the same rate as Male’.
“Our aim is to provide our goods at a cheap and affordable price to everyone. That is why we are doing this” said Shaheer.
Even now STO operates pharmacies with Aassandha coverage in all islands of Maldives.
