Media outlets that expressed concern about the Maldives have “vanished” upon hearing from Maldives “strongman”.
In the past two weeks many international media outlets have reported saying that the first democratically elected President of the Maldives have joined hands with former Maldives strongman to topple the current government.
The strongman they are talking about is former president of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. This strongman has yesterday denied all the statements made by Nasheed about him. It has been 24 hours since then, but none of the media has yet reported his word on the matter.
President Maumoon himself has said that Nasheed was lying. Even his party PPM released a statement saying that the statements of Nasheed about President Maumoon are lies. Still international media is silent about the matter.
Meanwhile, people are saying that those who expressed concern about Maldives are not actually concerned about Maldives, but they are worried that Maldives is an Islamic nation. They are worried that Maldives is a hundred percent muslim country. These media outlets are agent for secular parties and they want to introduce religious pluralism in the Maldives.
If they hear something about Maumoon that will serve their agenda, then he is indeed a strongman. But if it does not serve them well, then they don’t care about reporting about Maumoon or what he has said.
This should be a lesson and something to think about for Maldivian Muslims.
