Just three years back, it was very difficult to be in Male’ harbour area right after Eid holidays. The whole place will be crowded, full of people who come back to Male’ after holidaying in other parts of Maldives.
Also there will be no empty place on the surrounding area because all the boats will be loading goods to take back to the islands with them.
In this Eid, it is estimated that 60% of the residents of Male’ left for other destinations. By yesterday almost everyone has returned back. However, the harbor area was not crowded this year. It was as usual.
This change is due to the development in transport sector. People no longer travel from slow moving boats. They take speed boats or travel by air. Due to the high demand for air travel, government is building airports all over the country.
Right now government is building the third airport in Gdh Atoll. With that, Gdh atoll will be the first atoll in Maldives to have three airports.
