India has awarded scholarships to four Maldivians to study MBBS in India as part of Indian assistance to develop the health sector of Maldives.
In a ceremony held at the Indian Cultural Center in Male’ this afternoon, the 4 students were awarded the scholarship letter, by the High Commissioner of India to Maldives H>E Mr. Akhilesh Mishra.
Speaking at the Function, Mr.Mishra said that they recognize the effort of the Maldivian government in developing the health sector of the country and that the Indian government will always assist the Maldivian government in this field. “Health Sector is the main Humanitarian ground for all. We meed toDevolop it as much as we can.”
He said that these medical colleges where the scholarships are offered at are the most prestigious medical institutions in India and to make best use of it and advised the students to make good use of the opportunity. He also asked the students to make Indian friends and improve the individual relations. “We need to make person to person relationship between both countries as much as we can to strengthen our relationship.”
Two of the students got the scholarship from All India Institute of Medical Science. One got placement in Lady Harding Medical College and the other got the placement from Mumbai Grant Medical College.
India assists the Maldivian health sector very generously every year. In these scholarships, allexpenses except the international airfare is covered by the Indian government.
India has started giving these medical scholarships after a 3-year break. Education Minister Aishath Shihaam welcomed and thanked the Indian government for that.
Even though no new medical scholarships were offered in the last three years, scholarships from other sectors were given every year.
