Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has sponsored to train one Maldivian athlete. This is part of an ongoing program by MV Sports.
At a ceremony held this morning, Marzooq from MV Sports said that 65% of the training opportunities will be given to athletes under the age of 18. He also said that, Education Ministry has arranged for them to do O levels even when they are abroad.
MV Sports said that, they aim to train 32 athletes by 2020 and plan to send 3 of them to the 2020 Olympics.
Mr.Marzooq also said that once when they stopped making it an excuse not to train athletes because there is no track and a swimming, and started training athletes abroad, they have won medals from these two sports. Also now being an athlete is something one can depend their livelihood on.
The CEO of MWSC Mr.Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed said that they will try to provide more opportunities to train athletes.
MWSC will spend 12,000 dollars annually on the athlete they have sponsored.
