Maldives has expressed interest for a seat in UN security council
Maldives has expressed interest for a seat in UN security council starting from 2019 to 2020.

Speaking at the UN general assembly early this morning, foreign Minister Dr.Asim Mohammed expressed the interest of Maldivian government to run for a seat in the UN security council.

Dr.Asim said that the size of the country should not be a barrier in guaranteeing rights. He said that it is fair only if all countries get the same rights and benefits despite the size of the country.

Referring to UN and some other international organizations, he said that this problem should be solved and all countries should be dealt on an equal basis.

Previously even President Yameen has spoken about this issue on several occasions.
“Right now small countries get smaller amounts of justice and big countries get bigger justice. We do not accept this. We are advocating for equal opportunities and rights for all the countries” said the President.
