Mr. Ahmed Zuhoor, Minister at the President’s Office have said that subsidies on staple food items were reduce and electric subsidies were cut, not to save money from the budget.
Speaking to the press Mr. Zuhoor said that the 142 million Rufiyaa saved from the subsidies will be used in developmental projects for the betterment of the people.
“We must listen to global financial institutions. We have to show them that we take their recommendations seriously. If not we will not get any assistance from these institutions. Without their assistance it will not be easy to carry out developmental projects” said Zuhoor.
Mr. Zuhoor said that when government changed electricity tariffs, government made sure that the burden on the people will be minimal. He said that with the new rates, majority of the people will benefit while few number of people may endure difficulties.
