National Quran competition starts with some changes
This year’s national Quran competition has started last night, with some changes.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the competition, the President of Center for the Holy Quran, Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa said that the competition was at first organized by Mauhadh and if counted from those times, this will be the 35th national Quran competition.
He said that, previously it was held as an inter-school Quran competition, but however now it has been changed to a national competition instead. He also said that, separating men and female categories is also a good change.
This year also, there will be two categories, including memorization and recitation.
“The purpose of the competition is not only to recite Quran beautifully. It is through such competitions, Haafizs, Qaaris, judges and teachers are made” said Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa.
More than 180 people of different ages are participating in this year’s competition.
