The MD of STO Ahmed Shaheer have said that the companies running under STO prioritizes in providing a public service rather than only making profits.
Speaking at the ceremony held to celebrate the 17th anniversary of Maldive Gas, Shaheer said that subsidiary companies of STO such as Maldive Gas, Allied Insurance and FSM focuses more on providing a public service to the people rather than making profits.
“Even in the future, the subsidiaries of STO will focus on public services, not only to make profits” said Shaheer.
Shaheer said that Maldive Gas was formed because the then chairman of STO Yameen Abdul Gayyoom took the initiative to prevent Maldives from experiencing gas shortages which used to happen often during those days.
Shaheer said that the company started with just about 200 gas cylinders and now, they provide gas for more than 60% of the households in Maldives and also to various resorts. In addition, the company is providing products like medical gas and industrial gas as well.
Shaheer played a key role in the formation of Maldive Gas and has served the company for a long time. In tonight’s ceremony Shaheer was given an award of recognition for his services to the company.
The MD of Maldive Gas Abdullah Maumoon said that Shaheed is very innovative. He specifically noted the wind farm project of Maldive Gas in Ihavandhihpulhu as true example.
