Maldivians has never dreamed that the largest airplanes in the world will be able to land at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in a near future. Not only Maldivians, even foreigners did not expect this.
However, the government of Maldives has assured that within the next two years, this dream will become a reality. Work is already underway to make this happen.
This can happen with the development of a second runway. The second runway can be developed once land is reclaimed at Hulhule’ island where INIA is located. At the moment, land reclamation work is going on. More than 100,000 square meters of land has already been reclaimed.
Speaking to Miadhunews about the airport development, the MD of MACL, Mr.Adil Moosa said that it is possible to reclaim the land at a faster speed but since, the land is being reclaimed to make the runway, they have to be extra careful about it. He said that they should make sure that the land is very firm.
Maldives is a small country. Even now, tourists really desire to see flights landing at the airport. Tourists say that, the view of the clear blue sea and the greenness they see when landing at Maldives is not something they get to experience anywhere else in the world.
