President Yameen is scheduled to visit Fuvahmulah tomorrow. In his visit, he will officially inaugurate the project to develop water and sewage systems in the island.
Recently, the President classified Fuvahmulah as a city. Hence, this is the first time a head of state will visit Fuvahmulah after the island becomes a city. So this visit of the President will be historical.
Fuvahmulah is an important island atoll in the Maldives. It’s noted for skilled labourers and agriculture. Also, various scholars of the past and present hails from the island including present President of parliament.
Despite all these facts, previous governments failed to give much attention to the island. The airport which President Maumoon planned for the island was also never completed by MDP government. Later it was developed by the President Waheed’s administration. Establishing water and sewage systems in the island will be an important milestone for the island.
Fuvahmulah is renowned for various things even historically. There are a lot of people with Quranic knowledge in the island. The Quranic National Center, started their first tele-class rooms to teach Quran, in Fuvahmulah to recognize this.
