Economic Ministry have said that they will hold a business expo, along with the Thailand-Maldives trade talks aiming to boost trade between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference held at the ministry rhis afternoon, the Deputy Economic Minister Adam Thaufeeg said that a high level business delegation from Thailand will visit Maldives on 12th of this month. Also, that there will be meetings of the joint commission formed to boost trade relations between the two countries, at Hotel Jen on 12th and 13th of this month.
Adam Thaufeeg said that in addition to the meetings, on 13th of October there will be a business expo in Dharubaaruge, where different businesses of Thailand will participate. They are expected to show some of their products and hold information sessions.
Expo will go on from 10:00am to 12:00AM and from 2:00 to 4:00OM according to Adam Thaufeeg. He further said that Maldives imports various goods from Thailand. “Those include, hardware, food, staple food, garment and clothes” said Thaufeeg.
He said that even though, Maldives has established trade relations with Thailand a long time back, this is the first time such an expo is being held in the Maldives. In addition, he said that, everyone can visit the exhibition freely and no registration is required.
Thaufeeg said that, various departments of the government will participate in the meetings of the joint commission.
Thailand is among the top importers of Maldivian fish products. They also have a widely established mari culture industry. Hence, Maldives can gain valuable insights from Thailand to further develop the sea cucumber harvesting project started in Maldives recently.
