Maldivian music legend Ahmed Naashid (Fuloo Naashid) has passed away while undergoing treatment for cancer.
He passed away while undergoing treatment at ADK hospital. Naashid played a key role in the formation of the music band Zero Degree Atoll, which was most famous band in 80s.
Naashid has been treating for cancer for the past 5 years. He was taken to ADK after his condition worsened suddenly. Naashid came back to Maldives around a year ago after residing in Sri Lanka, for a long time to treat for cancer.
His last public appearance was in “A tribute to Naashid” show held last month. He did not spend much time at the show due to his deteriorating health.
He was working on an album called “journey” when he passed away. He started working on the album 10 years ago but was unable to complete it due to his ill health.
“Dhoni” album of Zero Degree Atoll is one of the bestselling music albums in the Maldives and the most successful album by Zero Degree Atoll as well. Songs of this album are famous among the tourists who visit Maldives and even now various resorts in the Maldives use these songs.
Naashid died at the age of 53.
