President Yameen has inaugurated the water and sewage system development project in Fuvahmulah. The project is expected to finish in the first quarter of 2018.
The project costs a total of 297 million Rufiyaa. Out of which 155 million is from the Kuwait fund and 142 million is from the state funds.
During President Maumoon’s administration, a 10-million-dollar loan was taken from the IDB to start a sewage systems project, but the project was stopped as soon as MDP came into power in 2008. They contracted the project to Bi-Water and later the project was cancelled.
Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim said that MDP never did anything for the development of Fuvahmulah and all they did was make empty promises. He said that MDP just showed illusions to the people and the citizens of Fuvahmulah witnessed this.
Thoriq said that this administration has established sewage systems in 10 islands and water systems in 12 islands within a short period. He said that even now work is underway to develop sewage systems in 12 islands and water systems in 15 islands. He said that this government will not make empty promises to the people, but will implement projects and show it to people.
