Will go to court, to ensure that MPL gets deserved profit: Junaid
MD of Maldives Ports Ltd MPL Muhammad Junaid have said that he will go to court to ensure that MPL gets their deserved profit.

Speaking to Miadhu News, Junaid said that MPL needs fuel in large quantities and Meridiam fuel supplying company nelonging to Mr.Riyaz Rasheed, MP, supplies fuel at a rate which is double the market rate hence he requested Meridiam to reduce the price of fuel to market prices.

Junaid said that they announced for another supplier when Meridiam refused to reduce the price to market prices. “Now we have to purchase at a rate which is almost double the market price. This is not something we can accept as a government company. When the market price is 6-7 Rufiyaa per liter how can we buy a liter for 12 Rufiyaa ? How can they do this to a government company? I will not accept this” said Junaid.

Junaid said that in cases like this, the Courts should not only look at the damages that might be incurred by one party but also look at the financial losses incurred by MPL as well. He said that they lose millions every month.

Junaid said that as long as he is running MPL, he will work to make sure that MPL is a profitable company. “That is my responsibility. That is my duty. President Yameen appointed me to this post so that I run this company efficiently and productively in parallel to his economic policy. I will remain doing that” said Junaid.

He said that they will appeal the temporary order issued on MPL yesterday by the Civil Court.

Yesterday Civil Court issued a temporary order on MPL asking not to contract fuel supplying services to any other company than Meridiam Services which is owned by MP for Villifushi Riyaaz Rasheed.

They issued this order till they reach a resolution in the case. The Civil Court said that they issued the temporary order because they believe that, if the service is contracted to another party right now, Meridiam will suffer from irrecoverable losses.
