Economic Minister Muhammad Saeed have said that the government did not cut the subsidies completely and is spending 126 million Rufiyaa even now.
Speaking at the government oversight committee of the Parliament, he said that the government did not cut subsidies completely, but brought a much needed policy change.
“Some parliament members and even some media, are saying that the government has cut subsidies completely. Government did not cut it. Even now the government is giving 126 million Rufiyaa as subsidies” said Minister Saeed.
He said that if the government did not bring this change, the consequences would have been disastrous. “Very soon new resorts will open. Number of expat workers will also increase. Which means if there are 150,000 thousand workers now, that figure will double. At that point the issue of subsidies will be a huge problem” said Minister Saeed.
