Tourist arrivals increased by 2.3 percent!
Tourist arrivals has increased by 2.3 percent according to the records of Tourism Ministry. Also according to the statistics published by the ministry, the occupancy rate is now at 77 percent.
Records show that by the end of August 2016, 842,635 tourists arrived at the Maldives. The figure was at 823,766 in August 2015.
Figures show that number of tourists coming from UK, Germany, Italy and Russia has increased while tourist arrivals from China has decreased significantly.
However, China still accounts for the most number of tourists. This year 230,437 tourists visited so far. Last year by the same time 260,491 tourists visited from China. Tourists from UK increased by 10.6 percent while Italian arrivals increased by 8.5 percent. There was a little increase of 0.6 percent in Russian arrivals while a 2.1 percent increase of German tourists can be seen.
Tourist arrivals are expected to increase in the coming months, especially during the winter holiday period. Few more resorts will open before the end of this year and it is expected that a million tourists will visit the country though the earlier goal was to bring in 1.5 million tourists before the end of this year.
