President Maumoon has cancelled his trip to Egypt after saying that a revolution has been brought to PPM which is against the party rules and also against the democratic norms.
A message sent to the media by the Deputy Secretary General of PPM Abdul Aleem, says that the President of the Party, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has decided to cancel his trip to Egypt and decided to remain in Male’ with the general member to fight for their rights at a time when a group of people within the party are working against democratic norms to remove President Maumoon from party leadership.
Maumoon have said this during a time when some senior members of the party have accused Maumoon of authoritarianism and started conducting party activities independent of the party head office.
PPM council members and various members of PPM PG are saying that decisions made solely by Maumoon without consulting the PPM council will be invalid and thus should not be obeyed.
Hence, now there are two factions in PPM. They are a faction which supports Maumoon and another faction which supports President Yameen.
President Yameen’s faction is urging not to obey the announcements made by PPM with regard to the upcoming local elections. That faction has announced that all activities related to the elections should be carried out under PPM’s Vice President and also the head of the PPM elections committee.
They further said that the election activities should be organized by the committee formed by the party council in the 3rd meeting of the council this year.
