Two council members of PPM has filed a lawsuit to the Civil Court, requesting to remove party President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom from the position of Party President.
The two members who filed the lawsuit are MP for Hulhumeedhoo constituency Mohamed Shaahid and MP for Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyaam.
The lawsuit requested to issue an order on the party council to remove Maumoon and appoint someone who would work in the best interest of the people to the position. The lawsuit further said that the president of the party should work within the mandates passed by the party council, but that Maumoon has suspended all party organs and is now operating the party on his own in an authoritarian manner. Also the lawsuit highlighted that the fact that Maumoon defied the previous order of the Civil Court, which ordered him to remove the suspensions of the different organs of the party.
The two members are being represented at the court by MP for Guraidhoo constituency Ibrahim Rizaa. Civil court has scheduled a dispute resolution meeting for tomorrow and PPM has been sent a chit. The chit says that the person representing PPM should be someone who is endorsed by the party council and that the person should bring official documents as proof. Also the court warned that if someone from PPM is not present, they will start the case in their absence.
Meanwhile, the PG leader of PPM Nihaan Hussain Manik earlier said that they do not have any plans to remove Maumoon from the leadership position. Earlier today Maumoon has removed PPM’s Vice President Abdul Raheem and two other members from the party council. The tensions within the ruling party is at an all-time high now.
