Addu City Council has placed 11 dustbins in different areas of Addu City. This is part of the “Nalafehi” program to make Addu City a clean and a green city.
Under this program, the swimming track area of Hithadhoo was cleaned and two dustbins were placed there. In addition, 9 dustbins were placed in different areas of Maradhoo. These areas include Maradhoo swimming area, children’s park, harbor area and football ground.
Speaking to Miadhu, Deputy Mayor of Addu City, Abdullah Thayyib said that this is part of the council’s initiative to keep Addu City clean. He said that the council brought 65 dustbins two months back.
He said that there was a delay in keeping the dustbins because they could not arrange a trash collection service. He said that even now that has not been arranged and he requested everyone not to put perishable waste into the bins.
Thayyib said that soon, they will place dustbins in all the islands of Addu City. Even before dustbins were placed like this in some parts of Addu.
