Attorney General Muhammad Anil have said that one of the biggest challenge to the development of the legal profession in Maldives is, politicians practicing the law.
Speaking at the ceremony held tonight to swear in new lawyers, Anil said that leading politicians attend court cases and actively work as lawyers. He said that this causes trust issues and also puts the integrity of the lawyer in question.
He also said that some lawyers who apply to be judges create problems when they get rejected.
Anil said that practicing law is a very responsible job and lawyers should always keep in mind to do the job professionally. He said that always priority should be given to following the rules and code of conduct rather than the financial benefits.
