Lawyers should  not violate rights of others while legally defending client: Chief Justice
Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed have urged lawyers, not to violate the rights of others while legally defending their client. Chief Justice made this statement while speaking at the ceremony held to swear in 134 lawyers tonight.

He advised lawyers not to violate rights of others while doing their duty as lawyers. He also urged the lawyers not to do anything that will give a bad name to the lawyers and judicial system. He further said that lawyers have played an important role in the legal history of Maldives. He said that lawyers played a vital role in protecting the sovereignty and upholding Islamic Shariah in Maldives.

“Supreme Court has made important decisions regarding the fundamental and civil rights of the citizens and various works of the lawyers can be seen from these decisions. This is a perfect example of the contribution of the lawyers” said the Chief Justice.

In addition, he noted the role played by the lawyers in all the works done in strengthening the judiciary. The Chief Justice also urged the lawyers to keep up with the latest technological innovations.
