Supreme Court has decided to uphold the ruling of the civil court’s ruling to hand over PPM’s administration to President Yameen who is the Chief Advisor of the Party. Supreme Court made this decision after President Maumoon appealed the case at the Supreme Court.

The 5 judges of the Supreme Court decided that since, the constitution encourages political activities, it would be unlawful to stop the operations of a political party which is being funded by the state budget. They also decided that the High Court’s decision to uphold the civil court ruling was to uphold a fundamental value in the constitution.
The Chief Judge of High Court Abdullah Didi said that PPM was in a situation where the President and the Vice President of the party were unable to operate the party according to party by laws.
The verdict says that since President Maumoon claimed to have removed VP Abdul Raheem from the position, the validity of Abdul Raheem’s position at the party was in question. And, since the party president was unable to conduct council meetings as stated in the party by laws, the best solution for the party is to handover the party’s administration to the Chief Advisor of the party
.
The Civil Court ordered to handover the administration of PPM to President Yameen, after MP Shiyaam and MP Shaahid filed a case at the court saying that the party council meetings are not being held as stated in party regulations.
