There are medical services in Maldives which are not available in some neighboring countries: Hussain Rasheed
Hussain Rasheed, the state minister of Health, have said that now there are medical services in Maldives which are not available in some neighboring countries.

Speaking at a meeting held to mark the achievement of the current government in health sector, Rasheed said that this government has brought revolutionary changes to the health sector within a short period.

Hussain Rasheed said that the Cath lab in IGMH is a good example of the quality services available in Maldives. He said that 3 Maldivians were said to be untreatable by hospitals in a neighboring country, but they were treated at IGMH successfully. He said that these are things people previously did not even dream of.

Rasheed said that previously the policy of the government was to send doctors to islands with more than 500 people. However, this government started sending doctors to all the islands irrespective of the population. He further said that opening pharmacies in all islands is also a huge achievement and that alone created 500 new jobs as well.

Hussain Rasheed said that now each island will have a pediatrician, and a gynecologist and an anesthesist. He further said that dialysis services are now available in 6 regional hospitals and number of beds in dialysis center at IGMH has been increased from 18 to 43 beds.

He said that this government also started providing MRI services in the government hospital. Hussain Rasheed also noted that this government has provided 87 ambulances including 6 paramedic ambulances to various hospitals within the atolls. “By the end of this year thalassemia tests can be done in all atolls. Also all the citizens can do medical checkups via Aasandha” said Hussain Rasheed.
