This government has spent 90 million dollars to develop the airport, 1.3 million Rufiyaa per day : Saeed

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed have said that this government has spent 90 million dollars to develop Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and that is 1.3 million Rufiyaa per day on average.

Minister Saeed said that even though Maldives is small, after the redevelopment of the airport, the airport will be one of the most beautiful airport in this region. He further said that hence, 80 percent of the Maldivian economy is based on tourism, the development of the airport is of the highest priority to the government. He said that the development of tourism sector is dependent on the airport project.

He said that those who gave off the airport to a foreign company thinking that we cannot develop the airport on our own, with a huge loss to the nation, wont be happy to see the airport being developed by the current government. Minister said that however, the best course of action is to cooperate with the government instead of going against the government.

He further said that after the airport is fully developed, there will be 6000 new jobs available at the airport for the Maldivians.
