Major General Ahmed Shiyam have said that if Maldives is faced with an attack like that of November 3rd attacks, the army will show how capable they are and defeat any invaders.
Shiyam made this statement while speaking at the ceremony held at MNDF HQ to mark Victory Day.
Shiyam said that on 1988 Maldives was attacked at a time when the defence forces were not ready in any way for such an attack. “Those days, the highest trained soldiers had less training than the recruits of today” said Shiyam.
Shiyam said that even so, the soldiers bravely faced the enemies and defeated them. He said that today, Maldivian army has world class soldiers and with the will of Allah they can defeat any such enemies. Shiyam said that those who attacked Maldives on that day did not realize that victory is given by Allah.
Shiyam said that, there are traitors among Maldivians even today. He said that there are treacherous elements in the country like those traitors who sent Portuguese to attack Maldives hundreds of years ago. He said that such enemies do not come with guns and swords but in the name of NGOs. He also said that there are people who try to corrupt the mindset of the soldiers and harm the country. Shiyam said that even recently such people were found and arrested. Shiyam advised the soldiers not to be victims of such traps.
