CEO of Mega Maldives, Mr. George have said that any progress made by Mega Maldives will benefit Maldivians and Maldivivian economy.
George made this statement at a ceremony held at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport this evening to mark the operations of flights from Male to Colombo by Mega Maldives.
Mega Maldives have made a record last year by bringing morethan 100,000 tourists to Maldives. Mega Maldives was ranked at 4th place in terms of bringing tourists to Maldives. George said that their aim should be being on the third or the second place.
“If we look at last year, 90000 flights were made to Sri Lanka. If Mega Maldives can get even a third of that, it will be a huge achievement” said George. He said that they did not make the fare to Lanka cheap to compete with a specific airline, but when is cheaper Maldivians will have more money to spend in Lanka when they can save some off the ticket. “Lanka is like a second home to Maldivians. So, Maldivians will benefit from this” said George.
If we look at Mega Maldives even now there are 300 staffs out of which about 70% are Maldivians.
Maldives Airports Company Private Limited thanked Mega Maldives for starting these flights to Colombo at such a cheap fare.
There were cultural items held at the airport to welcome the Mega Maldives flight from Colombo. There was no ceremony held on 3rdNovember when it departed to Colombo, because 3rd November is Victory Day in Maldives.
