Dhiraagu stops using plastic water bottles
Staffs of Dhiraagu has stopped using non-recyclable plastic bottle completely. According to Dhiraagu this step was taken as a part of the “ For the Oceans” campaign launched by Dhiraagu on 16th October. This campaigns aims to encourage people to stop using non-reusable plastic bags and bottles.

Protecting the environment is on key focus areas of Dhiraagu’s corporate social responsibility programs. To encourage staffs to stop using plastic bottles, Dhiraagu placed water coolers in 7 floors of Dhiraagu’s head office. Also, each staff was gifted with a reusable water bottle. In addition, water coolers were placed in 9 regional offices of Dhiraagu and over 630 reusable water bottles were given to staffs all over the Maldives.

To carry out this campaign effectively, Dhiraagu selected an ambassador, titled “ green champion “ from all the departments of Dhiraagu. The purpose of these ambassadors are to inform the staffs about the importance of protecting the environment and delivering the objectives of the campaign perfectly. The ambassadors will carry out different programs under the “ For the ocean” among the staffs of their respective departments. In addition, Dhiraagu has established drop off points in Dhiraagu offices for their staffs to bring plastic materials used in their homes. These plastics will be exported in association with Paaley. The reusable water bottles gifted by Dhiraagu to their staffs can be used for a long time. The purpose of gifting these bottlers were to make it a habit among the staffs to use reusable bottles.

Under this new campaign usage of non-reusable plastic bottles by Dhiraagu is expected to be reduced by 99 percent. “For the oceans” is an international campaign organized by Paaley. The associate NGO for Paaley in Maldives is Beem NGO. Speaking on behalf of Beem NGO Shaaheenaa said that she is happy to see Dhiraagu joining hands with them in a campaign to protect the environment. She said that she hopes that Dhiraagu can deliver the pledges made by Dhiraagu this year.

Speaking on behalf of Dhiraagu the PR manager of Dhiraagu Imjaadh Jaleel said that their aim is to create an environmentally consciously culture among Dhiraagu staffs and aware them about the importance of protecting the environment.
