Undermining the authority of elected presidents of political parties is a challenge to the Maldivian democratic system : Maumoon
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom have said that, undermining the authority of party presidents is a challenge to all political parties and the democratic system of Maldives.

A statement released by Maumoon on the occasion of the National Republic Day, Maumoon said that it is important that everyone work together to defend the constitution and the democratic system of Maldives at this time. Maumoon said that if everyone fails to work together, Maldives will plunge into chaos.


He further said that while we celebrate the 48th republic day it is important to abide by the principles of the republic. He said that the biggest capital of a republic is the people and all the power comes from the people. In addition, he said that since it is the constitution that determines how the state should be run, it is everyones duty to defend the constitution. He also said that the country should be governed in accordance with the constitution.

Maumoon further said that since the people of Maldives supported to bring a system where powers are separated, the state institutions should work in accordance with this principle. In addition, he said that one state power influencing the other power is against the constitution.

He also conveyed Republic Day greetings to all Maldivians.
