Independent institutions should be provided with a mechanism to check on the budget: MP Evila
MP for Thoddoo constituency, Ibrahim Hassan have said that since next year’s budget is a huge budget, independent institutions should be provided with a mechanism to check on the budget.

Speaking about the budget in Parliament today, Ibrahim Hassan said that the budget allocated for independent institutions are decreasing and because of that the work they should do is declining in quality.

Ibrahim Hassan said that there are good projects being conducted in Ukulhas Island of his constituency. However he said that the number of projects in Thohdoo and Rasdhoo are few. He said that developing futsal pitches and Bashi courts is not sufficient.

He said that no matter to which party a parliament member belongs to, they are still representatives of the people and all members and all citizen of the countryshould have equal rights and opportunities. He said that he votes for the government in major bills no matter which party he is in.


Ibrahim Hassan talked about the importance of stability in the nation. “ Having a huge budget does not mean we can develop the country. We can attain development by stability. Many countries which are rich in natural resources are becoming poor and poor day by day because they do not have stability” said Ibrahim Hassan.

He said that government and opposition should unite and work together. “This government should be able to complete this 5 year term. Those who are interested in contesting for the government should wait till 2018” said Ibrahim Hassan.

He further said that the government should try to increase revenues but he does not support taking 25 dollars as airport development charge from Maldivians.

“Those who travel abroad from Maldives includes very poor people too. They beg and raise finance for their travels. So I cannot support to take another 25 dollars from these poor people” said Ibrahim Hassan.
