Should allocate sufficient budget for independent institutions, with the autonomy to use it : Qasim
Qasim Ibrahim the leader of Jumuhoory Party (JP) have said that sufficient budget should be allocated for independent institutions with the autonomy to use it.

While speaking at the budget committee meeting held yesterday, Qasim requested to allocate sufficient budget to the independent institutions.

The proposed budget for the judiciary is 475 million Rufiyaa which is 6 million less than this year. Judiciary said that, finance ministry deducted more than 100 million Rufiyaa from the budget proposed by the judiciary.

Qasim Ibrahim said that the judiciary is one of the 3 pillars of the state and the judiciary should be well developed so that people can achieve what they want. He further said that since people often talk about reforming the judiciary, the expenditure on judiciary is less compared to other areas.

Qasim also noted that a considerable amount was deducted from the budget of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as well.

ACC proposed a budget of 37.6 million Rufiyaa. However, finance ministry approved a budget of 27.7 million rufiyaa. So Finance ministry deducted one third of the proposed budget.

Qasim said that, with a huge deduction in the budget, ACC cannot conduct the investigations they are required to conduct and this matter should be resolved. In addition, Qasim said that the independent institutions should have autonomy over the budget and should be able to use it without further permissions from the Finance ministry after it is approved.

Every year, Qasim Ibrahim highlights the importance of allocating sufficient budget to the independent institutions, judiciary, ACC to work impartially.
