Opposition members have revealed that they are against delaying the implementation of the criminal procedures act.
Debating at the parliament on the motion proposed by the government to delay the implementation of the act, opposition members said that the act should be implemented as soon as possible.
Opposition members said that the police and the judiciary expressed concerns earlier, urging to pass the bill and now when the bill has been passed it is not right to delay the implementation. They said that if needed, the bill can be amended and it should be implemented as soon as possible.
In addition, members said that once the act is implemented, a lot of concerns of the public will be resolved. That includes arresting people arbitrarily and will also end the public belief that some people are arrested with political motivation.
Even before, the implementation of the bill was delayed. Government said that the government wants to delay it because, they want to create more awareness about the bill by working with UN and other international organizations.
