There are no poor people in Vaavu Atoll and other Islands: Islamic Ministry

Islamic Ministry have said that there are no poor people in Vaavu Atoll and Vaavu Atoll is the only atoll with no poor people. However, they said that there are some other islands without poor people as well.

Speaking to the press the Deputy Minister of Islamic Ministry Muhammmad Musthafa said that they came to know this when they prepared the list to distribute Zakat this year.

Musthafa said that last year 400 Rufiyaa was given to each individual who deserved Zakat and this year 900 Rufiyaa will be given. He said that the amount increased because they have made a proper list of those who deserve Zakat.

This year’s Zakat will be given from the Zakat money paid last year. Zakat will be distributed on 21st,22nd and 23rd of November.
