Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer have said that the MDP administration had to run after foreigners and sell the country to get 25 million dollars but this government paid 271 million dollars just within 3 weeks after the arbitration process of GMR ended.
Speaking about the achievements of this government, Zameer said that while MDP talks about the government paying this much money, it is MDP that will know how difficult it will be to do this. That is because they know how they were acting when they could not come up with only 25 million dollars.
He said that the agreement says that if Maldives is unable to pay GMR for any reasons, the amount will increase by 17 percent interest rate. Zameer said that, it is a huge amount even when compared to bank interest rates.
He said that making such an agreement is a crime. He further said that paying GMR and freeing Maldives from this burden is one of the biggest gift the President has given to the people of Maldives and this will benefit for generations to come.
