Even though who lose in primaries should be able to run in elections : Maumoon faction
Maumoon faction has said that the amendment proposed by the government to the political party act, to prevent those who lose in primaries to run in elections is against the constitution.

A statement by Maumoon faction says that the government is misusing their majority in the parliament to make laws which are against the constitution. The statement said that, passing such laws at a fast rate even without following necessary procedure is worrisome.

Maumoon faction said that they received complaints because PPM decided to let only those who get enough points to run on party tickets. The statement said that bringing sudden changes to the point system will violate some rights ensured by the party constitution. The statement further said that, the constitution gives the right to run in elections to all adult Maldivian citizens.

In addition, the statement says that the new system is not something made by the elections committee of the party and all decisions related to the elections will be taken by the elections commission of the party. Furthermore, it said that they believed that there should be room for competition in a democracy but day by day the room for competition is narrowing and this shows that those who are doing this does not respect democracy.
