Parliament has passed the motion to delay implementing the criminal procedures act.
MP Shaah of Fuvahmulah, proposed a motion to delay implementing the act on behalf of the government. According to the new motion, the legislation will be implemented starting from 2nd July 2017.
Criminal procedures act identifies the procedures that needs to be followed during investigation and prosecution stages of crimes. The purpose of the legislation, is to create regulations that will ensure timely and proper investigations of crimes without violating the rights of criminal suspects.
