Parliament passes to give President the authority to appoint the president of Islamic Fatwa committee
Parliament has amended the Islamic Unity Protection act, by giving President the authority to appoint the President of the Islamic Fatwa Committee, which was formed under the Islamic Unity Protection act.

The amendment was proposed to the parliament by Abdullah Rifaau on behalf of the government. Among the members who voted, 43 members voted for the amendment while 23 voted against it. In addition 3 members did not vote either way.

The amendment allows the President to appoint members to the Fatwa committee. Previously, the legislation said that the president needs to seek approval from the parliament before appointing a member from the national university to the board. However, after the amendment President does not need to get approval from the parliament.

In addition, the amendment allows the President to appoint an additional member. Previously, the Chief Justice had to appoint one member and now that article has been nullified, allowing the President to appoint that member as well.
