Speaking at a press conference held at IGMH today, Dr.Ibrahim Shihaam said that with the newly opened center they will be able to treat diseases related to the urinary system and various problems related to the kidney as well. In addition, they can do surgeries related to the urinary system and get rid of kidney stones.
Shihaam said that they will be working in association with NU Hospital of Bangalore. “ The main purpose of this center is to provide, urology services and services related to kidney problems to Maldivians “ said Dr.Shihaam.
The medical director of IGMH Dr.Ali Nazeem said that, they will try to provide the services to Maldivians in the best possible way. He said that this is a great achievement to the Maldivian health sector.
“ We provided urology service to an extent before. But with this center we will be able to conduct surgeries related to urinary system as well” said Dr. Ali Nazeem.
According to IGMH, a charge will be taken for fertility services because Aasandha does not cover it. In addition, they said that they are planning to start kidney transplant services starting from next year.
Speaking about the newly opened center, Dr.Ibrahim Shihaam said that they are trying to get more machineries needed for the center. He said that the number of people travelling abroad for these services will be reduced because of this center.
“Before these services were given in a very narrow scope in Maldives. With this new center, a wider range of medical treatments will be provided” said Dr.Shihaam. In addition, he said that having a specialist doctor and having a special center will be quite different and with the center, they can establish a full system that can treat these conditions.
The center was established with 2.5 million Rufiyaa of the state budget and with 6 million Rufiyaa from NU hospital.
