There will be no peace, in Maldives without relocating Bangladeshis to Gulhifalhu. Especially, the Bangladeshis in Male’ area.
UAE has many foreigners especially Bangladeshis working in different sectors. Even in UAE, they do not get the chance to roam around the city in non-working hours. After work they must go to areas designated for them.
In Maldives, what we see is Bangladeshis roaming around the city increasing when its late night. The result is increase of crimes like rape. If Bangladeshis roam around the city late at night, their sponsors should be responsible for this. However, the real issue is that most of these people do not have a valid work visa or a sponsor. In Hulhumale’ even last night there was an attempted rape. Since the victim was a bit aware, she could escape. However not everyone will be lucky as her.
The streets cannot be safe just with empty talks. Solid action needs to be taken to achieve that. If anything could be solved just by talking, this problem would have been solved by now.
Government always talks about deporting expats without valid work visas. But no one believes this now. That is because number of people without visas increase day by day. Because of that we can see the number of Bangladeshis near places like Zikura mosque, awaiting day to day jobs are daily increasing.
Even though the government says that Bangladeshis cannot run shops at local market, the number of Bangladeshis at the local market is increasing day by day. Hence this problem is something that should be debated at a national level and solved at the earliest. Or else, there will be no peace in this country.
