CEO of MPL, Mohammed Junaid have said that once they receive new vehicles for MPL, they will be able to do cargo clearance and ships can depart within 3 days.
He said that right now some times it takes 16 days for this process.
Speaking at a ceremony held tonight to celebrate 3-year anniversary of the current government, Junaid said that even though MPL is 30 years old they have just one resticker vehicle to manage containers and they can manage 250 containers from just one. “ We have ordered 6 of these vehicles. With those vehicles, we will be able to do cargo clearance within 3 days, which now takes 16 days to do so” said Junaid.
He said that MPL has created 300 jobs during last 3 years and next year they will create 500 jobs. He also said that the profit of MPL increased by 18 percent and next year they will increase it to 30 percent.
“Those containers that are brought for resort development and other projects, will be kept in Hulhumale’ for a small fee once local clearance is done. So the owners of these would not have to rent storage places for high prices in Male’. The roads of Male’ will have less load. Everyone will benefit from this” said Junaid.
Junaid said that once they start providing container storage services in Hulhumale' 200 new jobs will be created and Maldivians will benefit from them.
