Government has started working on getting back the shares of MWSC which MDP government sold.
In a ceremony held at MWSC to celebrate three year anniversary of President Yameen’s government, Tourism Minister Zameer said that the government is working to make sure than MWSC is a hundred percent Maldivian company.
Zameer noted that MWSC was a very well functioning company during President Maumoon’s administration but it’s shares were sold to foreigners during MDP administration. He also said that the company did not progress in anyway due to this.
“ Our aim is to make sure that this company is 100 percent Maldivian. Desalinating water is not something the companies in Maldives cannot do. We are trying to make MWSC a 100 percent Maldivian company” said Zameer.
Speaking about the achievements of the company, Zameer said that they are provide water services in Male’ at an exemplary level. He said that they have the capacity to provide these services in Hulhumale Youth City as well. “That is a target MWSC can achieve” said Zameer.
The CEO of MWSC Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed said that even now MWSC is undertaking important projects and they are being carried out by staffs of the company.
Fazul said that in 2014 and 2015, the work done by their staff was is worth 775 million Rufiyaa and by the end of this year they will do work worth 730 million Rufiyaa. MWSC has established a pipe manufacturing factory in Hulhumale recently.
