Scheduled flights by Sri Lankan Airlines to Gan begins with colorful celebrations
Sri Lankan Airlines have started scheduled flights to Gan International Airport this morning. In the maiden flight of Sri Lankan, 120 passengers arrived at Gan. The passengers include the CEO of Sri Lankan, Suren Ratawaat and senior officials of the airline.

The CEO said that he is happy to start scheduled flights to a beautiful city such as Addu and he is sure that these flights will be successful. Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Liraar said that the decision to start international scheduled flights to Gan was part of President Yameen’s manifesto and this will certainly develop the economy and tourist sector of Maldives.

Scheduled flights from Sri Lanka to Addu is a huge progress to the people of Addu and others atolls in the region. Those people who travel to Sri Lanka had to go to Male’ before and that added an extra 500 dollars to the travel costs. However now, people can travel to Lanka for only 230 dollars.

The Deputy General Manager of Addu International Airport, Ibthishaam Ahmed Saeed said that starting scheduled international flights to Gan is the biggest achievement in the history of the airport.

There will be 3 scheduled flights per week and this will boost the tourism of this area. Tourists can now visit Addu at a cheap rate. Since Colombo Airport is a transit point for various international destinations, now Addu City is connected with the whole world.
